Puerto Arturo — Auquinco (Lago Lolog)
A stretch of the Huella Andina long-distance trail along the northern shore of Lago Lolog, from Puerto Arturo to Puerto Auquinco. Dense colihue cane forest, araucarias, and a suspension bridge over the Río Auquinco. 25.5 km round trip, moderate elevation gain.
Puerto Arturo, on the shore of Lago Lolog, is the ranger station and campground where this stretch of the Huella Andina begins — the long-distance trail connecting several Patagonian national parks. Registration for the stretch is done at the ranger station itself.
The trail follows the northern shore of Lago Lolog, well marked, climbing to about 1,100 m through a dense colihue cane forest interspersed with araucaria trees, one of Parque Nacional Lanín's emblematic species. It's common to come across red deer and wild boar tracks in the valley.
The route continues to a crossing where a suspension bridge crosses the Río Auquinco, near Puerto Auquinco at the other end of the lake. It's a long walk but with moderate elevation gain, ideal for those looking for a full day in Patagonian forest without the technical demands of a summit.
